"Hello. Did you hear me?"
"Yes, I did."
"And...?"
"And nothing." Kola stated. "Just surprised is all."
"Hmmm..."
"I mean, it's been 2 months."
"--And I said I'd think about it."
"Erm Lola, let's have this conversation face to face, alright?"
Lola exhaled. Then said,
"Okay"
"Cool. Let me call you later, I'm in the middle of something."
"Okay."
"Cheers."
"Bye."
Nera met Ishaku staring into space in contemplation. She watched him for some time before speaking.
"You still love her."
Ishaku started. He was not aware he had company.
"You said?"
"That you have not gotten her out of your system."
"I am aware. That's the reason you were there---to help me make a decision."
"Did it help? The video."
"I guess. Thanks."
Ishaku sent Lola a text message: I am sorry.
She was not sure what to make of it. Why was he sorry? But she knew she was not going to ask. Enough of taking the initiative. Look where it got her.
Ishaku was still unsure if he wanted to give Lola another shot. But he felt bad that he'd made her cry. Hence, the SMS.
He would give her some time then call her.
Lola was already sleeping when her phone rang. Kola.
He was at her gate.
She dragged herself out of the house and joined him in the car.
The first words out of his mouth and Lola knew where he was headed. Still, she sat through till the end.
His earlier response to her acceptance had already muddied the waters. In a way, this helped her resolve.
She took a pen and paper and drafted a note. She'd had enough.
