Relationship Tests

At the risk of this line reading like cliché, the extent of your success, or otherwise in life is tied to your relationships. The reason being relationships provide the bridge to your destiny or the ball bearings to destruction.

He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. [Proverbs 13:20]

Relationship in this context is all-embracing but with a bias to the ones that get the heart racing and draw out smiles. The fact is: who you are and where you are is a sum total of your relationships up to this point..

RELATIONSHIPS CAN:
~Take from you
~Inhibit you
~Lessen you
~Add to you
~Refine you
~Unleash you

...If you want to go farther, review your relationships.

Why do I even need relationships?
° HUMANS ARE CONFIGURED FOR CONNECTION
° FAILING ALONE IS EASY
° GREAT FEATS REQUIRE OTHERS
° MULTIPLIER EFFECTS STEM FROM OTHERS

HERE ARE SIX MUST-PASS TESTS TO HELP YOU DETERMINE WHETHER YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE, OR WHETHER YOU SHOULD MOVE ON...

Sharing Test
How ready are you to share with and give out to this person (of) your time, capabilities, possessions, money and some of your most treasured ‘stuff’ – without their having to, and especially when they do, ask? Even when it is not convenient!

Strength Test
Is this relationship/marriage a place where you can multiply strength spiritually, financially, emotionally and socially? Or is it a place where your weaknesses and failings are shoved in your face at every opportunity? Does this association draw out the best in you – or the worst?

Respect Test
Are you prepared to mutually respect each other; first as individuals and as a couple? Will you respect his/her opinion (even when you do not agree with it) and honour decisions individually or jointly taken?

Resolution Test
Would you resolve issues (quarrels inclusive) amicably or would they have sequels and anniversaries? Can you disagree to agree or agree to disagree and not hurt each other in the process? Are there any persons whose counsel both of you willingly submit to, in the event you (two) hit a spot you cannot navigate yourselves?

Habit Test
Are you willing to accept the other person, including his/her shortcomings (even if they never change)? Would you accommodate their unsavoury traits and characteristics, knowing you are imperfect too?

Hardship Test
Will you be willing to pass the time test and weather the storms together? Will you be ready to stick with him/her through thick and thin? Will you take the good, the bad and the in-between, by their side?

These tests are not an exhaustive list. They are guides which appear here because they determine whether a relationship thrives or not. If you cannot answer these questions in the affirmative, do not waste your time, and theirs!

See you at the top!
