Afternoon Market Fire

It was 1pm when the fire started. The mu'azzin had just called faithfuls to prayer. In their usual manner, devoted business owners left their stalls for the mosque down the road.

The resultant relaxation in the bustle of the market, was replaced in an instant by pandemonium. Shouts of fire, fire, filled the air. Black smoke billowed into the atmosphere, from the south end.

People ran to get water-detergent solution to fight the fire, those who had fire extinguishers pulled them out. Another percentage, who thought themselves at risk, began to evacuate.

In the midst of all that, no one paid attention to the van parked in front of the microfinance bank or the masked gentlemen who made repeated trips from bank to van, lugging sacks.

The van was pulling away from the scene when a fire tender, rushing to respond to the fire, collided with it.
