Mitigating Fire Incidents

The spate of fires (at homes and business places) in the recent past is cause for alarm.

Moreso, when one considers that only few Nigerians insure against fire. This means that any loss to a fire incident is a major setback (from which some may never recover).

Whilst the question of where the fire service was may arise, that is reactionary. It is more important to consider how to reduce the chances of an outbreak of fire:
~Do not manage electrical faults (defective sockets/junction boxes etc, joined wires, mildly shocking appliances etc
~Do not allow fire load (collection of combustible materials that aid the spread of fire)
~Do not allow unsupervised cooking or burning (of items)
~Do not store fuels (whether liquid or solid)

If all that fails:
° Have basic firefighting skills
° Have valid fire extinguishers handy
° Have your home or office fitted with smoke detectors and sprinklers
° Have an insurance policy (against fire)

Stay safe!
