Misunderstandings

Misunderstandings are a fact of life. Sometimes they lead to conflict other times they produce greater understanding.

Most misunderstandings come from one of two things:
I. Miscommunication
II. Assumption

Miscommunication can arise from two sources:
• Not clearly articulating intentions or expectations
• Not verifying that what you understood was what was meant

Assumption also comes from two causative factors:
• Not paying attention because you (think you) know the endpoint or have a point to make
• Not waiting to hear the full message before responding

Any of these subheaders (on their own) can lead to a misunderstanding. But what tends to play out is that there is usually a mix that triggers or fosters the misunderstanding.

The next time you feel you are being misunderstood, first seek to understand.

Welcome to your future!
