You vs You: Competing Correctly

Competitions are good. They help people and teams know their mettle. They also reveal areas of improvement.

Without competitions, it would be really difficult to determine and crown champions.

Competitions aimed at bringing out the best in people and groups are beautiful.

It becomes a worrisome thing when individuals use others as yardsticks to measure how well they are doing.

It is okay for other people's successes and attainments to inspire you to push the boundaries. But the drive should be to produce a better you, NOT so it can be said that you are also in that class.

No two persons start from the same pedestal. Even if they are identical twins.

There would always be disparities in economic, intellectual, physical or social dynamics. These confer certain advantages. Hence, it is foolhardy to want to be where another is, when your paths and perks are not same.

Time and choices, however, can level out the playing field.

To foster that levelling, get into the life-defining competition of You vs You. Compete against your rated potential.

Working at improving upon your best version.

There is always room to do better, reach higher and be more. And it should not be predicated upon the understanding that there is yet untapped potential in you.

As Matshona Dhliwayo said, "To be a champion, compete; to be a great champion, compete with the best; but to be the greatest champion, compete with yourself."

Welcome to your future!
