Lola spent two weeks in the hospital.
Like every other person trying to figure out the ailment, she was confused. Was it stress, from tending Ishaku? Was it emotional trauma, from Ugonna leaving?
The one thing that was clear was that Ugonna's one liner was the tipping point. She'd passed out. The sound of her crash attracted the attention of a nurse on ward rounds.
The days that followed were a haze. She slipped in and out of consciousness a lot. Some of it was medication-induced. The rest was her. Her waking moments were marred by nonstop incoherent speech.
It was towards the end of the second week that the doctor felt it was okay to let her go.
Eight weeks passed before she allowed herself think of the triangle. Did her future lie in the past or was it with the one whom she'd nursed back to health and then pushed over the brim?
She decided to go see Ishaku.
She went to the hospital. He had been discharged.
She went to his house. The apartment was vacant. A neighbour told her he'd relocated. No one knew where to.
For some reason she could not fathom, she took a cab to Chief U-U's residence.
"Ugonna?
She nodded.
"In Singapore."
