Slow

 He lived in his shell. It had always been that way.


Neither taunts nor encouragement to try other ways yielded any fruit. He liked to stick with the tried and trusted.

Besides, long hours of instrospection showed him that what they termed a comfort zone was his safety zone.

T was like him. They had similar temperaments and never rushed into anything. Little wonder they got along so well. They shared nicknames too: Slow.

When T heard the news, he got in touch. 

Being caught flat-footed was not an option. They assessed the threat, decided it was real and estimated how much time they'd need to get ready. 

It was going to be taxing but so were most things worthwhile.

They travelled a long, long time, enduring different terrains and conditions. They were grateful that they carried their homes with them. At least, they didn't have to worry about the elements when night fell. Just curl up and sleep.

On arrival, they made a discovery: many others had taken the warning seriously.
 
Except for humans! Only the man who'd warned them and his family was there. A mere eight persons.
