The Value of the Dash

Everyday we live, we die.

Imperceptibly. Slowly. But surely. Each day we live, we inch closer to death...and the grave or cremation (whatever your preference is).

This has nothing to do with sickness. It is just the nature of things.

From birth, we start a march towards death. What folks call growing up is the journey towards cessation of life.

Apologies if this post seems macabre. It is not an attempt to offend. Rather, to remind you of your mortality. And how you may not have as much time left, as you thought.

Since we are progressively striding toward the end, it is important to know this. The sum of our time here, and impact (or lack of it), will be summarized with a dash.

Every headstone has the name of the deceased, date of birth and date of death. Between those dates is a dash.

That dash contains all you accomplished during your sojourn (on earth).

Let me ask, if you used up your time tonight, what will be the value of your dash?!
