Ever so often I hear people talk about waiting on muse, for inspiration to hit, for some condition to be in place before they can commence or continue a task before them.
Whether you are writing, painting, coding, composing music, executing a project, launching a business, 80% of what you should depend on should be things within your sphere of control.
Muse and other such vagaries, are external and not directly at your beck and call. They constitute the other 20%. Why should your progress in an endeavour hinge on them? What if those things you are hoping for never materialize? Do you remain in pause mode? Or do you eventually get cracking, when so much time (and attendant opportunities have been lost)?
Elizabeth Gilbert said, "I don't sit around waiting for passion to strike me. I keep working steadily, because I believe it is our privilege as humans to keep making things. Most of all, I keep working because I trust that creativity is always trying to find me, even when I have lost sight of it."
What I have learnt from personal experience in the field of authoring and management is that an improperly-put-together piece or project is better than nothing. How, you ask? There is something that you can tweak, something you can show to others in seeking collaboration.
When all you have is a vague idea, the most you can do is hope for vague commitments. And you do not want to do life that way. Get to work now....put one block on top of the other...start building. Many times, ideas and support tend to favour the one who is doing, over the one who is waiting.
Welcome to your future!
