Chinks in the Armour

Any security system is as strong as the chinks in the armour. An organization's security is no different. In fact, there may even be more points of vulnerability because of the human factor.
Yet, the organization needs to have a robust, functional security arrangement that provides assurance on identified threats. That should also be able to respond adequately to unforseen ones.
To get to this space, certain things will be useful:
√ Identify areas of exposure (are your risk-areas physical, financial, information...do the needed deep-dive)
√ Put the infrastructure in place (security cannot function in a vacuum...organizational perspective and resource-allocation affect the working of the security apparatus)
√ Establish controls (both internal and external...place them in layers and keep the external ones independent)
√ Make people aware of their existence (they do not need the details of their functioning to avoid easily figuring out a way to bypass them)
√ Follow through on whatever is in the books/policies (people need to know that good and bad deeds are recognized and rewarded)
√ Constantly reassess and update (based on technological advancements and changes in the operating environment...to avoid a system that is not fit-for-purpose)
