Yesterday, there was a near-crash in my country's airspace. A plane lost an engine while taking off, it was almost nosediving when the second engine kicked in and stabilized it. The craft had to make an emergency landing.
There are lessons to be learnt from this nearmiss:
1. Systems fail:
•Do not take any anomaly for granted
•Do regular (preventive) maintenance
Whether your body, your organization or your transport, recognize that systems can fail. The beauty is that there are usually warning signs, pay attention to them. Also, regular checks will help elongate life and prevent incidents.
2. Expertise rocks:
•Development of capability is vital
Knowing what to do in given situations may be the difference between success and failure, and.sometimes, life and death.
3. Emergencies happen
•Invest in preparing for them
•Initiate scenarios to test preparedness
The reason they are called emergencies is that they occur without warning.
When they do happen, the one thing that may save you is how ready you were before they arose.
4: Stark truth
While the crisis lasted and people felt they were faced with death, only what was priority mattered. Some bemoaned, some wished, some prayed... Pause and think about it, what matters more than most to you? Are you giving it the right kind of attention?
Consider these lessons, work them into your life and organization. You would live a much richer and fuller life.
Welcome to your future!
