While preparing a message just
now, a few things about Esau struck me.
For those who do not know him, he
is the dude that exchanged his birthright for a plate of food (in the Bible).
I know you have your notions of
him. It is even possible many of them are unflattering. But there are some
lessons to be learnt from Esau. Particularly, when you consider that in the
space of six chapters (See Genesis 27 and then 33) he dramatically turned his
life around. So much so that, when his brother came back from exile, bearing
gifts, he looked him in the eye and said, ‘Keep what you have.’
Here are some of the things that Esau did:
- § He overcame disgruntlement (forgave himself and his brother and chose to move on)
- § He lost all sense of entitlement (realized that no one really owed him anything)
- § He got acquainted with his element (took the time to really know himself and what he was about)
- § He followed his assignment (discovered it and developed competencies around it)
- § He transacted for advancement (with his time, resources and skills)
Learn from Esau. If
someone who should have ended up a slave, depending on handouts, could become a
phenomenal success, you can!
Welcome to your
future!
