Easter is the commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ whose birth is arguably the single most significant event in history. But even the event of His birth pales into insignificance when placed side by side with His resurrection. Of all the great teachers/leaders of the world’s religions, only one had the audacity to make the fantastic claim that He would die and after three days come back from the dead – then back it up in a most spectacular manner by actually rising. None other achieved this feat. Not from a distaste of it, they just did not have what it takes. Only The Nazarene could – and did!
The poem above is an expression of the transaction He engaged in which results in the transmutation of every person who subscribes to it. In resurrecting, He went ahead of all who follow Him to prepare as well as show the way… And the deal begins with accepting Him as Lord.
The difference between Christianity and every other religion/sect/way with a claim to lead to God is that it is the only one whose founder overcame death. All the others are still in the grave! And that is the story of Easter – the account of the One who died and rose again. It is the celebration of the One over whom death and the grave were powerless, who died, rose and is seated at the right hand of His Father – making intercession for believers.
So, if you fancy the select status that followers of Jesus have and the idea of life eternal appeals to you, read the poem again. Then solemnly and in your own words tell Him you acknowledge and accept His sacrifice. Then ask Him into your heart to be your Lord and Saviour.
See you in the skies!
