Lola watched Ishaku turn the corner and out of view. She felt both ashamed (that she'd wished an accident on him) and relieved (that it was no more than a fantasy).
But Ishaku was mean. Imagine leaving her for another woman under such uncharitable circumstances.
She stared into space thinking of how things had fallen apart. Treacherous tears came uninvited to her eyes and escaped before she could blink them back
Ishaku fished out his cellphone and made a call.
"So?"
"What do you mean you don't know? It either worked or it didn't."
"Get back to me then. Thanks."
He returned the phone to his pocket and looked up. Just in time to see a boy riding a bicycle without holding the handlebars heading straight for him. He jumped back. Bicycle and boy whizzed past. He shook his head.
He walked into an electrical shop. The attendant scrambled to her feet.
"Good day sir."
"Hi. How are you?"
"Fine sir."
"How is it going?"
"Slowly. Just a couple of sales."
"Hmm."
Ishaku sank into a seat. Sales were the last thing on his mind. Seeing Lola from such close quarters messed up his equanimity. Truth was, he still felt something for Lola.
His phone rang. It was his cousin, Nera, again.
Not knowing what Lola's game was, he'd arranged with Nera to call him while they were at table. That call set things in motion.
"With you."
"Yeah. Go ahead."
What Lola had no way of knowing was that the lady two tables to her left was videoing and transmitting to Ishaku who was less than 200 metres away.
Lola reached into her purse, extracted her phone and placed a call.
"Hello Kola. I say 'Yes.'"
