Endgame

 It was over. She was not doing this anymore.


For years, it had been the same story. She always ended up in tears.

People said the benefits were worth the pain. Ebem her mother told her it was the way of things. Tat she was not the only woman who faced this challenge. All others persevered for the greater good. She could not be the odd one.

As she stood in the kitchen, rivulets running from her eyes down her cheeks, she made a decision.

She was done. Whoever felt she had failed was free to step in.

One thing was certain: she was never slicing onions again in the name of cooking.
