Rats come in different sizes and colours, so do opportunities. In the same vein, you can employ different methods to eliminate rats.
When it comes to opportunities, there is no silver bullet that can be used. There is no Almighty Formula that can be applied to embracing and maximizing opportunities. You have to do it your own way.
Note that this is not saying chuck proven principles. Nope!
How best can you take opportunities and make the most of them:

Anything that is a problem and reason for complain can be cashed-in on. Always remember this.
° Understand your inclination
Know you, what works for you and what you can handle easily (and those that you'd need help to pull off).
° Take principles and personalize them
Principles are universal, their applications are not. Adapt them to suit you and the reality around you).
° Execute ruthlessly
Once you have made up your mind to do better than the rat race, and you have seen what can work, chase it till it pays.
