The Wander (The Wand 2)

The dissolution was not unlike when Thanos finger-snapped The Avengers out of existence. Only there was no gradual disintegration into ashes. It was more like a mirage in the desert. A form, a shimmering then nothing.

Darren's mouth went from an undulating line ito an O. His expression mirrored that a of a barbarian encountering the wonders of science for the first time.

The light in his eyes dimmed then died as he realized he was responsible for obliterating his stepfather and the house. He'd not meant to do that.

That realization triggered another: the wand was communicating with him. Maybe even controlling him.

The wail of sirens in the distance announced the approach of cops. Someone must have reported the sudden disappearance of a house in their neighbourhood.

Wipe them out!
The voice in his head urged. Without any prompting the voice supplied the incantation that would get the job done.

Nearby a dog barked. It broke through the fog of magic.
How could he be certain that in taking out the cops, no other things would be harmed?

In that moment of lucidity, it came to him that he ought to be wielding the wand not the other way round. Since he did not how to, he decided to check with the one who forged it. He willed the wand into obedience.

In fleeting moments, he saw all he needed. He also understood the reason Ahkroyn banished it.

He knew what he had to do to take care of the wand for all time.

The patrol car was parking when Darren spoke the ancient spell.

The officers would later report that both wand and wielder burst into blinding white light before ceasing to be.
