As the year begins to wind up, the need to keep your children and wards safe goes up. Especially as they will be involved in a lot of activities this period.
Settle in your heart that it is your responsibility to watch out for them; regardless of what they know or do. Therefore, keep your eye on this ball and do not drop it.
The following are kid-safety tips to deploy:
~Strap your kids in when they are in the car. If they are small, use rear-facing child-seats. Do not allow them stand or jump around when the vehicle is in motion.
~Never carry little kids in front while driving. Particularly NOT on your laps or arms. If they are not old/big enough to fill the seat, they have no business sitting in front.
~Do not allow little children in the kitchen when cooking is going on. If they have to help with food preparation they should be supervised.
~Know the events kids are attending and who is organizing. Where practicable let them be chaperoned.
~Teach them to refuse offers (of gifts, lifts and such) from strangers.
~Drive home the importance of clearing with you any instructions, from known and unknown persons, that purportedly come from you.
~Explain the criticality of not going anywhere with friends without letting you know.
~Discourage your children from sharing information about themselves or your family (realtime or online). It can cause unnecessary exposure.
Stay safe.
