Personal Security Post-EndSARS Protests

The #EndSARS protests redefined a number of things in the Nigerian landscape and affected many others.

Security is one area of major impact. Even now (post-protest), the security situation is still volatile. Pervasive is the uneasy calm that comes after a storm. There are movement restrictions and fear of outbreak of violence.

Very few are certain what comes next or what to expect. Especially, with different groups (some of them militant in nature) making different demands.

Yet, life goes on. Differently! But it goes on all the same. With the possibility of a new day ushering in some dynamic with far-reaching effects.

In times like this, take the following steps to ensure your personal security and safety:
✓ Observe movement restrictions. Do not put yourself in the space where plenty explaining and pleading becomes necessary.
✓ Do not go out so early or come home after dark, if you can help it.
✓ If you must, do not be alone. Devise a means to do this with others.
✓ Let someone know your itinerary and make your family members do same.
✓ Keep your opinions to yourself. There are many plainclothes security operatives out I'm the field. You do not want to speak rashly...
✓ Avoid gatherings with potential to turn violent.
✓ Make only absolutely necessary personal trips.
✓ Knowledge of hot spots and flash points will be beneficial to you.
✓ Stock up. In case there is a sudden need not to leave the house.
✓ Increase your cash-at-hand threshold. Going 90 - 100 per cent cashless is not advisable in this season.

Stay safe and secure!
