Work That Thing

While having a conversation the other evening with a brother, he mentioned the names of three persons in the entertainment industry (two of whom are figures on the international scene, the other is more in the background but still doing good).

He and the three fellas were course mates back in the day. He described them as unserious academically...their focus was music.

According to him, from the picture they cut back then, it was difficult to see them at their present levels.

But the one thing they had going was that they focused on their craft and stayed true to the game.

I took these learnings from that discussion:
° Everybody has their thing
° Identify your thing (and it does not have to be trending)
° Stick with your thing (work that thing)
° Give all you've got to that thing until you become The Big Thing
° Be content with your thing and not be swayed by other people's things (even when its allure is blinding)

I asked him if in hindsight, he'd have done anything differently. His response was that that was not his thing.

By the way, your thing can be absolutely anything, or even anyone.

And I will say no other thing on this thing.

Welcome to your future!
