Today, I want to delve into an area that is seldom touched, that is, if it is thought about. How secure is your place of worship?
Because faith is a key component of worship, there is a natural tendency to transfer it to every aspect of the latter.
The challenge with that is that creates a blindside when it comes to the security of the place of worship and faithfuls. It is this that those with criminal intentions exploit.
Let us carry out a little exercise.
In your mind, go to your place of worship. Critically appraise it with the eyes of a would-be-assailant.
Now answer the following questions:
On a scale of 1 to 10:
- How secure do you think your place of worship is?
- If anyone wanted to carry out a crime (theft, arson, kidnap, bombing) how difficult would it be for them to succeed?
- To what level are you comfortable with your place of worship's security arrangements?
- How effective is Access Control?
- What is the level of preparedness for emergencies?
If, overall you scored 25 or less, there is, in a manner of speaking, fire on the mountain. Above that but less than 35, means your security structure needs beefing up.
While you have the conversation on improving, here are steps you can personally take...
✓Mind your stuff, always
✓Park in line of sight (of attendants/guards)
✓Keep valuables out of sight
✓Mentally note where exits are if you need to leave in a hurry
Stay safe, stay secure.
