Last time, we started a conversation on keeping safe in large gatherings. The bits around the danger posed by being in crowds and the preparations to make, came out.
Let us take it further...
Precautions:
• Avoid accessories like spikes, chains, long jewellery & purses. They can become tangled and trap one or heighten the risk of injury.
• Drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated. This can prevent overheating or passing out if things get too close for comfort.
• Make sure at least one part of your cloth is bright and easily visible – that will increase your chances of being seen when the lights are down.
Preservation:
• Move away from the centre (of the surge).
Keep to the wall.
• Try to move sideways of the crowd until you get to a wall. Then press yourself against it until the crowd dissipates, or you find a better exit.
• Stay on your feet.
• Do everything you can to ensure that neither you nor anyone falls. (If someone extends a hand for help, grab it to keep him/her upright – if it is safe top so do). Collapsing in a crowd can be a point of no return for those who fall.
• Do not try to pick up anything (whatever you may lose, do not risk trying to retrieve them).
• If you have to hold onto something, grab people’s clothes.
• Protect your head.
• Head for the alternate exit.
• If there is no fire, earthquake, or danger of electrocution, waiting till the rush is over is smart.
Stay safe!
