In the second verse of Invictus, William Ernest Henley
wrote:
'In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the
bludgeonings of chance
My head is
bloody, but unbowed'.
If you
have not winced or cried out loud in the, sometimes terrible, grip of
circumstances, you are stronger than most.
For the
rest of us, whose mortality is closer to the surface, we do all that and more.
You see
it's okay to do all that. What is critical is whether you bow your head under
the bludgeoning of chance!
However
bloody your head is, keep it up. No matter how many times you have kissed the
canvass, get up again and fight. The person who is still standing can see
opportunities that the one lying prone cannot.
So, to you
who have decided to fight one more round, to give it another shot, to knock on
that door again, go on do it.
You are
closer to triumph than when you began.
Welcome to
your future!
