Nuts & Regrets

There is a precept you can live by, it is contained this statement by Steve Maraboli, “At the end of the day, let there be no excuses, no explanations, no regrets.”
Those who catch monkeys use a trick: a box with nuts inside and an opening at the top—just enough for a monkey to slip its hand in.
When a monkey comes along, it sees the nuts and the aperture through which they can be gotten and in goes the hand. The monkey grasps nuts and the hand becomes a fist. And therein lies the conundrum; the gap is big enough for a hand to get in, but too small for a fist to come out. At this, the monkey has two options: let go of the nuts and go free or hang on to them and get captured.
The monkey usually holds on to the nuts and struggles till it is caught.
Everyone comes to a point in their journey where nuts (experiences, past failures, reasons, and lack of resources) put their travel on hold. The problem is not the nuts, it is what you do with the nuts.
✓Recognize that once you have set out, your best bet is to keep moving. If you allow anything hold you down, that bit of your life may be difficult to recover—if ever.
✓Realize that it takes as much effort, if not more, to revisit the past, as it does to envision the future.
✓Accept that the past is in your head and the future is in your hands—to make of it what you will.
Do not hang onto nuts that keep you from advancing. Jettison the 'what-if’s' and the rationalizations that make the past look rosier than it really was. Remember the time when all you wanted was something else? Well, here is your chance, go for it.
Welcome to your future!
