The proverb did just that for Nenye. It encouraged her to take the bull by the horn in this quest. The alternative was to remain in this slow, civil service town. Surrounded by people approaching the grave and non-existent opportunities.
Everyone she told advised against it.
So, it was difficult landing a job. And the few organizations in town were, well, not it. But that was no reason to travel thousands of kilometres, to see a guy, three states away. Because he said there were jobs...
It isn't even like you know him.
What if he's a rapist or one of these ritual killers all over the place?
Realizing she had no response to the objections, she began to rethink the trip.
That was when the caller on the radio phone-in programme shared the adage.
She texted them the address he sent, as well as his mobile number. Then she took off.
That was seven months ago.
Her last status update on WhatsApp showed an unmistakable baby bump.
The quest had been productive after all.
