Mitigating Risks

Let us push the conversation around risks further.

In assessing risks, it is vital to decide the potential degree to which hazards can impact upon persons or assets.

If the possible potential impact is low, you check whether the risk is one you can live with or whether some barriers should be put in place (to forestall occurrence).

For high potential ones, layers of barriers/ controls are advised.
These controls can be:
• Procedural
• Administrative
• Engineering
• Legal
• Human

The idea being that if one fails, the other(s) should hold.

The last bit, is to consider the possibility of an incident occuring in spite of your efforts.

At that point, you need to make plans for recovery.

Stay safe!
