It is often said that leadership is everything. Which is why leadership is held responsible for movement or the lack of it.
While I still believe that leadership (and leading) is important, in the past couple of days, I have come to witness other phenomena as powerful. They equally provoke movement.
In sharing his insight into life, a wise man advised the lazy to go to the ant to learn. Why? Without a commander, leader or ruler, ants store up food in summer and gather supplies at harvest.
I had always wondered at that statement until now. The events unfolding in Nigeria reinforced it and made something clear: passion, when harnessed, and commitment, to a cause, will not just get the job done but in a fine way.
It is these two:
- Passion
- Commitment
That the ants used in the illustration and the protesters in Nigeria have in common.
One thing is clear, there is no need for a central figure or figurehead to make things happen.
A person or team armed with passion and commitment will find a way around obstacles. They will improvise and innovate and keep reaching for the objective.
They understand that everyone can lead from everywhere. They understand that the cause is more important than having one person in front.
Get with a cause worth dying for. Give it your all. That is when you, truly, are alive.
Welcome to your future!
