#thepursuitofExcellence
Excellence is appreciated by everyone but not everyone is willing to chase it down.
The reason is simple: the pursuit of excellence can be taxing. Another reason: the pursuit of excellence is a never-ending journey, and many a time, it is easier to stay with the comfortable.
The problem with the comfortable is that it may not be the utmost. It could even be downright mediocre. The comfortable may have worked (well) at one time but the dynamics have changed. If you remain there, you become redundant, a relic and then extinct...like a typewriter in this digital age.
The best way to go is up. Even when you go down, the reason should be to put in place the structure required to go up. The upward path is one of excellence...where you are not comfortable with remaining where you have been.
By the way, that is the number one law of leadership: be ahead of the pack.
To cultivate excellence:
✓A vision of the end
As much as possible, be clear as to where you are heading before you start. That way you will not settle at any other stop (no matter how fancy).
✓Work at it, and work some more
Excelling rides on the back of work. Being average is easier, it does not need you to do much. But you are not in that number, right? Good.
✓Push the boundaries
Challenge the norm; reach for more. Wonder why, seek to understand why, query the why...it takes you to places that changes the whole game.
✓Keep learning
A closed mind is antithetical to excelling. Make it a habit to unlearn (what is no longer useful), relearn (what you know but do not apply) and learn (something new).
The thing about excellence is that it stands out... In the midst of average, excellence will attract the right kind of attention, recognition and position.
Welcome to your future!
